So a tactic that has always worked for me now is skirting the mission area since it always means I know I cannot get attacked from behind. This is a great enabler and always ensures we "own" certain sections of the map. Unfortunately, it is too foolproof and has yet to fail me. Someway to make this more dangerous perhaps would be worth it?
Perhaps there could be some insurgents who don't enter the mission area (so the game doesn't have infinite enemy respawns) and are fairly easily spotted and shot down but who will happily camp outside and at least make the playing field 360degrees again?
Maybe that could be a strong role for the AAV gun AI, to stave off the slow but at least present assault from outside the mission area. It would also mean that staying close to it and having it make its way round to your position as it does EVEN more valuable. So that rather than the whole square of the compound being "safe", it is just the direction you came from and the AAV that is.

Re: Easily Skirted Mission Area
Obviously perhaps taking into account situations where it would be unfair (by gameplay standards) to have insurgents gunning you from the outside, for instance when you are solo and trying to recover the 3 downed teammates.
Maybe even they just act more as suppression, so while they very rarely hit you from that angle, you need to clear them out otherwise you can't do jack with all the suppression they're giving you from behind.

This sounds like it has its flaws (ie, when mortars spawn across the map and you don't have a clear angle on the nest). Has anyone else been using this tactic?PeterAvastrat wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 3:41 pm So a tactic that has always worked for me now is skirting the mission area since it always means I know I cannot get attacked from behind. I always flank far left or right of the map, seeing going straight to the objective building that is for example center of map, you will get flanked from enemies that are on the right side and left of the objective building.AmperCamper wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:09 pmThis sounds like it has its flaws (ie, when mortars spawn across the map and you don't have a clear angle on the nest). Re: Easily Skirted Mission Area
Amen, skirting the area guarantees that it stops it being a 360 degree battlefield... Which, at least for me, is kind of a problem! However, since the game is already decently tough. I can't help but use the far left or right flank as it is so foolproof. Some way of making these outside roads of the map equally dangerous would make sure you always hold that sense of unease.Necramonium wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:37 pm I always flank far left or right of the map, seeing going straight to the objective building that is for example center of map, you will get flanked from enemies that are on the right side and left of the objective building.
As for Mortars, it depends on the mission as to whether I will engage. The convoy mission is the only mission where this tactic isn't helpful and proves the hardest for me actually, especially when the mortars come! But, in the other missions the mortars are useful to destroy, but only if they come on the side of the map we are assaulting.
