So my idea would be to keep it how it is for matchmaking games, but also have an option to have custom lobbies with custom parameters like enemy count/density, enemy skill, game mode, etc. For online matchmaking games that give you points and stuff, probably that should be at the standard difficulty and enemy count. For custom matches, maybe you aren't given points but you allow friends or even an individual to play through however they want in a sort of sandbox environment.
There's been lots of times where I'd love to just hop on solo for a quick practice session or whatever, and allowing teams to tailor the experience would also be neat. I don't know how that would work for matchmaking though so those should probably just be "standard". Part of what makes a game like Arma so popular is the level of options it provides to create various environments and game modes and what not. More options is usually better as long as it doesn't ruin the immersion / gameplay.
