Re: Keep the Open Mic

Just wrote this as a feedback to the team making the game:

It appears at this time there is no option for a local proximity voice chat (push to talk) button. As a streamer who likes talking with my chat as well as with my teammates playing the game, I typically use a push to talk button for my stream and an alternate PTT button for my teammates when I need to make important coms about callouts, for instance, where enemies are. Sometimes my brother is playing Call of Duty next to me so it could be confusing for others to hear the gunshots from his game coming out of my character's mouth. Perhaps there should be a Streamer Mode for people who wish to talk only when they mean to, not a constant microphone transmission.

I was taken by surprise that everyone around me heard the TV playing behind me and my dog's barking. I feel as though this could take away from the immersion of the game. Some people may consider the constant microphone activation as intrusive to their privacy as well. A temporary solution I thought of was using two different microphones; one for the stream and another for important coms while playing the game; However, then I would still be constantly muting and unmuting the game one - to be polite for the people who want to hear our enemies and not my keyboard clicking.

A streamer mode for PTT would be a wonderful addition to the game and should be an option for people who wish to talk only when necessary, not all the time. Thank you for making this awesome game, I feel as though it's one of the best milsims I've played in a long time.

Sincerely,

Re: Keep the Open Mic

I assume that we're talking about open mic while in combat - not about what goes on in the lobbies, right?

Unfortunately, our group found the open mic in combat to be completely unusable. Half the time we can't hear what each other is saying. We do understand the relevance of proximity while talking like this but guys would talk and not know whether one, two or all three of the other guys could hear what was being said. And I can assure you that telling people that they can't be heard unless we are in close proximity is not going to change their behavior. It got incredibly aggravating. I'm a huge fan of the radio as we could always hear what each other was saying (except when there was too much ambient noise) but one of us objected because player-characters had to take their hand off their weapon to talk leaving them open to getting blown away. I disagreed with this and thought the radio was the perfect solution but I was out-voted. We ended up muting voice chat (set to 0) and going with our usual Discord channel. So much for a little realism...

Absolutely need to find a way to promote communication in this game. Sick of playing with randoms with:
- No mic
- Has mic but does nothing else but breath heavily into it
- Has open mic with monkeys screaming in the background

I'm not too sure, but I think the think tank can a solution to encourage communication.

We didn't get along at the beginning either. But you have a microphone volume option, set to normal by default that you can switch to loud or very loud. It works great after, and the immersion is much better

We are experimenting with ways of implementing this that will be available in a patch we're planning for this week. Communication is still imperative to the core experience, but we see cases where open-mic can be frustrating (coughing, side conversations, etc).

This is a non starter for me because, if you don't think that other noise or conversation or gunfire or explosions or screams impair your ability to communicate in real world then you need to go back to COD. This is a immersive game however, in interest of solving th;is I would simply make a PTT hot key and make it a squad option in the game for comms. All I work with use discord so it is not a issue.

Ah, the old "go back to CoD" gibe.

Sorry but someone eating chips/crisps in my ear, playing loud music, talking with their spouses / children or otherwise being inconsiderate, oblivious or downright annoying does nothing for "immersion". .....quite the opposite IMO / IME.

Again, I believe folks should at least have the option to mute individuals in a party if they want to. ....but I agree, PTT should be an option as not everyone prefers to have to press a button to speak. However, I believe it should be an individual choice rather than one dictated by a "squad option".

I do like the idea of an open mic and for folks like me who only play with friends (rarely randoms), it works well for us 99% of the time. ....but others shouldn't have to suffer through when joining strangers or those unable / unwilling to make adjustments to what is broadcast over their mic to the party.

Re: Keep the Open Mic

Have push to talk/ toggle doesn’t change anything. For the people who want to share the open mic experience they will simply turn mic on.

For the people who are sitting next to a fan, screaming kids, loud music, multiple people talking behind them, nobody wants to hear that when you’re trying to talk to other teammate and hear bad guys.

As a streamer I don’t want to burden my teammates with me talking to chat. I haven’t streamed the game because of this reason. Do you want me to be in battle and hear me say “ hey ponypopper5000 how was your day?” I mean sounds interesting but nobody wants to hear random talking that doesn’t evolve around the game and your squad. Toggle push to talk would be amazing and doesn’t change the aspect of the game. People can still use a hot mic all the time.

Re: Keep the Open Mic

What about keeping it, but make it just like a option in Discord, voice activated, so it only sends out sound when someone is clearly talking and you don't hear background noises.
