Bootcamp is where a civilian earns the right to be called a Marine. School of Infantry is where a Marine earns the title Infantryman. The fleet is where a Marine Infantryman earns the right and respect to be an actual Infantryman as that is when you are placed into your unit. But, actually preparing for an operation is done in theater either in or outside the wire.
For Phantom Fury we (1/8) prepped in Camp Fallujah in a section called the Iranian Training Camp. There we went over ROE's. Basic tactics and TTPs when we're integrated with armor (for when we push in the city.) Any last minute admin stuff (like mailing all your trash you've collected during your deployment back home incase you die [to include writing your death note and getting issued your body bag.]) And lastly going over the terrain model of whatever your initial objectives were for the first 24 hours (since I was Alpha 1/8 my rehearsal drills was about taking the Goverment complex center. [That would be the taking and clearing of the Police Station, Mayor's building, and School while 2nd and 3rd Platoon took two twin skyscrapers we dubbed as Mary Kate and Ashley.])
I think I have some photos of us in ITC I'll post them when I find them.
