Melee Combat

Are you guys planning some sort of melee function for instances where you end up right in someones face? Obviously the thing to do is use your weapon, but there are recorded instances of hand-to-hand during the battle (or so I researched). Additionally, has it been considered that sticking your barrel into an uncleared doorway can result in the barrel being grabbed or smacked away?

I actually wouldn't mind a QTE for hand to hand as long as it's not to often. And please for the love of God don't make it be one hit with our rifle kills the enemy like COD. Also, I don't see a knife being good because as I mentioned before, some things should take time and getting to a knife in a fight will take some time and can't just be pulled out instantly like COD.

For sure, arcadey melee smacks with a rifle or a quick knife jab would be counterpoint to everything displayed thus far. Close quarters fights to the death are some of the most vicious struggles in the human experience, so a QTE might be the way to go. Perhaps in more common encounters to avoid a QTE, a mechanic performing a shove, a kick, or a quick shuffle backwards to give you space to raise your weapon might be interesting?

On one of the first mission of Battlefield 3 you get attacked while disarming an IED and although it was a QTE it was a good little fight sequence. Both characters were grunting and yelling a bit as they engaged in hand to hand combat in a tight spot. Maybe use that as a reference.

It sounds like a good idea but I'd be careful for it to not be too scripted.

Thanks for asking this!

Yes, there is melee in Six Days. We have spoken with a number of Marines and Soldiers who were forced into melee situations during the battle. We'll go into more details later, but it’s not a "one-hit kill."

As per usual, looking forward to seeing what you guys do with it! And hopefully the team doesn't feel like we're just throwing a hodgepodge of wishlist items your way. So many of us were thrilled to see this project revived and are genuinely curious to see how you guys intend to distinguish yourselves in a market full of shooter games.

Actually, many of the things discussed on the forums so far are things we already have plans for (in one way or another). These discussions help keep us on track!

A very good example of melee combat which could be expanded is IMHO Metal Gear Solid's CQC.

Realistic Close Quarter Combat with different weapons (knives, hands-only, sidearm buttstocks, rifle buttstocks) would be really, really good and unique.
